An age discrimination case in the current news has caught the attention of pop culture. This is because an actress is suing the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) for revealing her age on its website. The woman had a subscription to IMDbPro in order to showcase her acting credits. The suit alleges that the site took her personal information and used it to find her date of birth, and then listed it on the website. She claims she repeatedly asked them to take the date down, and they did not.
As a result, the actress says she has lost a substantial amount of employment opportunities and earnings due to her age being revealed and the ensuing age discrimination. She is seeking $75,000 in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages.
