Lawsuit Alleges Gender Discrimination at Quest Diagnostics

Two female employees recently filed a lawsuit against Quest Diagnostics and one of its Florida-based subsidiaries, AmeriPath, alleging gender discrimination against women.

Indiana resident Erin Beery claims she was passed up for a promotion despite 15 years of sales experience; the job going instead to a male colleague with only three years of experience. The lawsuit states she was told that her colleague received the promotion because he had participated in the company’s Sales Advisory Committee, an opportunity that had been denied to her.

The lawsuit is asking for $100 million in damages from Quest, as well as the creation of programs and training to prevent future discriminatory practices or procedures.

Even though in the past few decades there have been many huge strides toward gender equality, discrimination still exists. It’s also important to remember that gender and sexual discrimination does not mean women are the only victims. Men can suffer from gender discrimination as well.

Several actions can be based on discrimination in the workplace:

  • Hiring and firing
  • Promotion and failure to promote
  • Demotion
  • Undesirable reassignment
  • A decision causing a significant change in benefits
  • Compensation decisions
  • Work assignment

If you’re facing sex or gender discrimination at work, don’t hesitate to contact our law offices today for a confidential consultation. We focus our practice on protecting the rights of people who have been wrongfully terminated due to discrimination in the workplace.
