Kathryn K. McClure
Kathryn K. (Katy) McClure, a Partner with Deutsch Atkins, P.C., joined the firm in September 2008. Ms. McClure has devoted her entire legal career to the practice of employment law representing primarily employees, who have been subject to unlawful workplace conduct, in state and federal courts. A former full-time employment paralegal who attended law school at night, Ms. McClure credits her work/school experience for instilling in her the tenacity, judgment and dedication which she brings to bear as an advocate vindicating the rights of clients who have suffered injustice in the workplace.
Ms. McClure represents employees in negotiation, mediation and litigation in all areas of employment law, including sex, age, race, disability, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, pregnancy discrimination, and sexual harassment. She regularly represents clients in claims arising from retaliation for whistleblowing under the Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA) and discrimination/retaliation under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD). Ms. McClure also represents employees with regard to requests for reasonable accommodation, the interactive process, Family Medical Leave Act and the New Jersey Family Leave Act. She also counsels and represents employees with regard to breach of contract claims and non-compete agreements.
Prior to joining Deutsch Atkins, P.C., Ms. McClure was Of Counsel to Smith Mullin, P.C. from April 2005 until August 2008 and an associate with Lowenstein Sandler PC from August 2004 until April 2005. For a decade prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. McClure was a paralegal with Smith Mullin, P.C. during which time she actively participated in pre-trial litigation and trial support of numerous employment matters that resulted in successful jury verdicts for the plaintiff.
Ms. McClure is a member of the Labor & Employment Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association for which she currently serves on the Section’s CEPA Committee and previously served on its Personal and Civil Rights Committee. Ms. McClure is also Secretary to the Board of the National Employment Lawyers Association/New Jersey (NELA-NJ) and a Barrister with the Sidney Reitman Employment Law American Inn of Court for which she presently serves as program committee co-chair.
In May 2013, Ms. McClure received the David Solomon Award for Outstanding Service to the Sidney Reitman Employment Law American Inn of Court. In 2010 and 2012, she was included in the Thomson Reuters list of New Jersey Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars.*
Ms. McClure is a 2004 graduate of Rutgers University School of Law – Newark and 1993 graduate of Montclair State College. At her graduation from Rutgers, Ms. McClure was awarded the Myron Harkavy Award for greatest promise as a trial lawyer.
From January 2010 until May 2011, Ms. McClure also served as an Adjunct Professor at Montclair State University where she taught Introduction to Legal Research to undergraduate students.
